Kokeshi Dolls

March 15th, 2016

New this month, Kokeshi dolls!  Kokeshi are Japanese wooden dolls traditionally made for children, but are becoming increasingly popular among collectors.  It is said they were originally sold to visitors to the hot springs of the Tohoku region of Japan during the late Edo period to supplement business and to keep workers’ hands busy during the winter months.  Many people also believe the dolls were originally exchanged as tokens of friendship with messages concealed within.  Our Kokeshi are made by Ithaca, New York artists Jacob and Lisa Hodsdon.  Lisa, whose mother is from Hachinohe, Japan is a Japanese-American artist specializing  in painting and design.   Jacob has specialized in wood turning for many years.  Together, the couple create a wide range of Kokeshi with sizes ranging from two to eighteen inches tall.

Cruz Bay VI Ring Toss

January 25th, 2016

ringtoss1.jpgInspiration for our ring toss game comes from the Cruz Bay Landing Bar and Grill, St. John, USVI.  While waiting for their killer Bloody Marys or Pina Coladas, the table top ring toss invites you to try your luck.  Quite frustrating at first until you catch on … then the challenge becomes how many times in a row you can catch the ring on the hook.  Our version features furniture-grade cherry, brass chain and hook.

Temporary Help

January 16th, 2016

office1.jpgMeet our new temporary helper, Ramona!  Ramona is a ten-month old  Canine Partner for Life puppy in training up from one of the Maryland Correctional facilities.  Just as we are a community puppy home, CPL has established a network of dedicated prisoners throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania who raise service puppies for their first year or so.  It is a great program with wide-ranging benefits for all involved!  Ramona will be with us for a month while our puppy in training, Cheeky, will be with Ramona’s handlers at her prison.  Stop by and say hello and get a wet, sloppy kiss.
