Friday, September 17th, 2010

Nationally known ceramics artist Alan Bennett will be at Deerfield Fine Wines, Shoppes At Louviers, on Friday, September 24th for the Newark Arts Alliance fund raising wine tasting.  Alan will be demonstrating his technique for forming salt and freshwater fish wall sculptures out of clay.  Demonstration will take place during the tasting from 5:00 - 8:00 pm.  Alan, a full time clay artist since 1990, earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting (Arizona State University) and a Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Ohio State University.  His signature fish sculptures are represented in museums, private and corporate collections throughout the country.  Alan’s work has been at Creations for the past 15 years and Alan is bringing us some fresh fish for the holiday shopping season!

A David Roy Classic!

Meander was the first long running spring-driven sculpture David created. It runs for 10-12 hours on the single winding of a single spring. His previous record was a double spring piece that clocked in at 4-5 hours.

The longer run time is achieved by restricting most of the motion to the two large freeform wheels. The other wheels and belts only come into play when one of the large wheels looses momentum, slows to a stop and requires a new push. A small pawl on the freeform wheels then engages a pin on a pulley and causes the mechanism to propel the wheel forward for another period of revolutions.

The freeform wheels spend most of their time turning in opposite directions at slightly different rates of speed. The motion created between the wheels is graceful and flowing. This is a very quiet, peaceful, meandering sculpture.

This is an unusual offering exclusively from Creations.  Our price is $1200.  shipping within Continental USA included.
