Hey, University of Delaware People,
Now is the time to order your collectible Fighting Blue Hen Scultpure from Creations!
Delaware’s association with the Blue Hen Chicken dates back more than 200 years to the Revolutionary War. At that time, a regiment of Kent County soldiers under the command of Capt. John Caldwell gained such a reputation for ferocity in battle that they were compared to the gamecocks the men kept for sporting amusement. This particular breed was distinguished by its striking blue plumage and aggressive behavior. As the University of Delaware’s athletic mascot, the Fighting Blue Hen name dates back to 1911, but it was not until 1939 that the Blue Hen was officially adopted as Delaware’s state bird. Artists Dawn Mickel and John Gardini create this Blue Hen copper sculpture at their studio located in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Cut by hand one at a time, the signed and numbered sculptures exhibit motion and expression using elegant, simple lines. The richly colored plumage is acheived using intensely focused heat from a torch. Each piece is coated with clear polyurethane to keep the colors true. Each collectible sculpture comes boxed with artist and history cards.
Large Sculpture (unmounted- 8”l x 3 ½”w x 7”h): $90.
On cherry base: $98. With custom engraved plaque: $110.
Small Sculpture (5 1/2″ x 3″ x 5″h): $48.
