About the artist
In 1993, Brian was working for Northwest Airlines as a buyer. Longing to be on his own doing something more creative, he left his job to pursue his dream. The first challenge? How do you create something totally unique? Brian explains, “I liked metal sculptures, but they were very common and in many instances, too ‘cold’ for many decors. Instead, I thought I could take the best qualities of wood and copper and combine them into something no one had done before. By using steam to bend the leaf portions, I was able to overcome some of the limitations that wood presented. By marrying ash leaves with copper trunk and stems I was able to create an item that was flexible, strong, and much warmer in both color and texture than metal sculptures alone.” That was when Windhover Creative Design’s vision was born. The first of Brian’s tree designs features spring tone colors. He quickly followed his first offering with a fall tone tree and then two more color combinations (click on the tree images above for color listings). Trees are shipped within the U.S. employing a custom shipping box Brian designed in collaboration with his shipping company.
