The creative forces hiding behind Acme Animal are Don Gidley, Sue Parke and Nancy Clarke, located in London, Ontario. Those with an eye for the quirky will delight in their mostly functional sculptures. Sue's sense of whimsy, Don's eye for geometry and Nancy's precision detailing have merged in their pieces that come in all manner of animal or vegetable. In a studio filled with sheets of aluminum, scroll saws and rivets, Don cuts while Sue and Nancy paint. Each sculpture is finished and hand-painted on both sides. They use bold combinations of color to give the peices life and brush strokes adapted from stage painting (as they met while working on theatre sets). "We see our work as urban fold art ... or folk art with an urban sensibility."
